Sr. Martin's Bio--La biografía de señor Martin
I am originally from Mexico, born to two wonderful parents who raised three of us there before immigrating us to the United States. We settled in Prosser and this has been home off and on for over 39 years. I am from a large nuclear family that consists of six sisters and two brothers. In total, there are 11 of us but our family has grown to over 26 when including nieces and nephews. It has been a blessing having them in my life and I thank God every day for the experiences we share together.
I graduated from Prosser High School in 1993 (Go 'Stangs) and attended Washington State University where I graduated with my Bachelors in Foreign Languages and Literature, a Secondary Education emphasis and a minor in Psychology. I continued with my plans to teach and completed my Master's in Teaching -- Secondary Education in 2012.
My work experiences stem from having had stops at various educational settings that range from secondary to higher education. During this time, I further cemented a passion for helping and teaching younger students. It also came about from personal experiences as a student when I questioned my own abilities to understand success. My parents were pulled out of their studies in the 6th grade to help with their family farm. As a result, their lack of education made it difficult for them to help our family when we needed it. However, there were several teachers that reminded me that I was indeed capable of being successful. Their belief in me, coupled with their on-going support provided me with the necessary skills to persevere beyond high school. Reflecting back, I am very thankful for all they did for me. Today, I hope to inspire and create a similar emotion of success for my own students as they dive into the world of learning and mastering a second language.
When I'm not teaching Spanish, one can find me hiking and getting out on the trails to enjoy our majestic and beautiful Northwest geography. When the weather says otherwise, I enjoy practicing yoga, exercising and playing as much volleyball as my arm and shoulder will allow me to play. Because I love playing and watching volleyball, I plan to continue coaching here in the state of Washington. I love my Cougs, college football and I always look forward to the season and the annual Apple Cup!
GO COUGS!!!
